The AK handguard as an element of the new modernization concept

In January 2026, our team introduced our first handguard for AK carbines. This marks the beginning of a new direction we intend to develop systematically with an engineering-driven approach, close attention to detail, and practical operational logic.

Why we started this project

The Kalashnikov platform is rightfully considered one of the most reliable systems in the world. However, when modernizing carbines built on this platform, several structural limitations become apparent.

One of the key challenges is mounting a red dot sight while retaining the factory iron sights.

Existing solutions involve compromises:

  • Dust cover rail systems  dependent on fixation rigidity and repeatable return to zero.
  • Side-mounted  brackets  increased weight and added bulk to the overall system.
  • We set a clear objective: to create an alternative that preserves the functionality of factory iron sights while providing a stable mounting platform for a red dot at a shooter-comfortable eye relief.

A key element of this concept is our “Dragonfly” module — a solution integrated directly into the handguard architecture.

  • Expands the capabilities of the carbine
  • Preserves its inherent reliability
  • Does not interfere with the system’s core mechanical function
  • Provides the shooter with flexibility in optic selection
  • Allows true redundancy between optic and iron sight systems
